Brussels, 02/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - As briefly announced in EUROPE, on the occasion of the visit by US Deputy Trade Secretary Grant Aldonas in Brussels this week, the US Administration and the European Commission agreed on the details for renewed commitment in favour of the Transatlantic Business Dialogue (TABD), recognised as the "key forum for discussions for both government and industry". This process clearly provides "added value" to the transatlantic partnership, Jean-Paul Mingasson, Director General for Enterprise at the Commission, stressed. He very also very pleased with the concrete follow-up action that the US and Community administrations were able to give to "a number of key TABD recommendations". "It is therefore important for this process to continue working and for it to remain effective", he said, urging business circles on both sides of the Atlantic to stick to their commitments. "Our governments renew their call for industries to work, via a modified TABD, on the main issues linked to facilitating trade", he went on. In a recent exchange of correspondence, Commissioners Lamy and Liikanen, as well as Trade Secretary Donald Evans, had already declared their support for the 2003-2004 activities of TABD, a process which had obviously run out of breath last year and which should be reactivated around the time of the EU/United States summit in Washington, on 25 June this year.
