Commission study on updating innovation policy in Lisbon context

Brussels, 08/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the initiative of Erkki Liikanen, the European Commission has published a study entitled "Innovation Tomorrow". The study mainly analyses how to update EU innovation policies, affirms that a third generation innovation policy which recognises the central role of innovation in all fields is an essential condition for improving economic performance, and presents three case studies - United Kingdom, Oulu (Finland) and Catalonia - illustrating different aspects of innovation policy. A press release from the spokesperson for Commissioner Liikanen explains that, unlike the previous innovation policy generations, this third generation will reflect the horizontal nature of innovation and the need for it to be integrated in traditional policies (Info: http: //http://www.cordis.lu/innovation_policy/studies/gen_study7.htm ).
