Brussels, 13/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to give the go-ahead on 13 January to the merger of Sweden's Tetra Laval and France's Sidel. As we were going to press, the decision had not yet been formally announced. After making a detailed investigation, the Commission had rejected the merger plans back in October 2001. A year later, the Court of First Instance (to which Tetra Laval and Sidel had appealed) cancelled the veto, enabling the two parties to again notify the deal to the Commission, which is unlikely to oppose the deal a second time. Europe will return to this tomorrow.
