Brussels, 05/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - Stressing that "European farmers and their co-operatives have always asked for a coherent and clear system for the authorisation and use of GMOs in the EU", Copa (Committee of professional organisations in the EU) and Cogeca (General Committee for agricultural co-operation in the EU) declared on Friday that they "welcomed" the political agreement reached by the Agriculture Council on the labelling of GMOs. European farmers and their co-operatives, they say, "welcomed the fact that the threshold values required for labelling will be established within the core of the future food feed regulation". Copa and Cogeca also welcomed the Council's decision not to extend the labelling system to meat, eggs and dairy products derived from animals fed on genetically modified feeds
