15/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission will give its decision on Portugal's exceeding the 3% ceiling (imposed in the Stability Pact) with regard to the budgetary deficit (the Portuguese deficit stood at 4.1% in 2001). It will also request Portugal to make a concerted effort to bring the deficit down to less than 3% of GDP this year.
