Brussels, 14/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner for external relations, Chris Patten was in Egypt on 13 and 14 October to meet President Mubarak, Prime Minister Ebeid, Foreign Minister Maher, members of parliament and the Secretary of the Arab League, Moussa. In a press release, Mr. Patten stated that he intended to draw attention to the importance of human development in the Arab world, referring to the conclusions of the recent UNDP report.
On 14 and 15 October, Patten was expected in Jordan, to be, notably, received by King Abdullah II, and to have talks with Prime Minister Ragheb, Forign Minister Muashar and the President of the Senate, Al Rifai. With Finance Minister Marto, Mr. Patten has to sign financing agreements for MEDA projects for a total of 92 million euro.
