25/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of the meeting, in Brussels on Thursday, between European Commission President Romano Prodi and Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, Marco Pannella MEP announced that the Transnational Radical Party and Euro-MPs intended to demonstrate before the Commission to recall the need to respect the "democratic clause" provided for by Article 1 of the EU/Vietnam Co-operation Agreement. The meeting, notes Pannella in a press release, "is taking place a few days after the offensive treatment, on the limit of provocation, meted out by Vietnamese officials to the European Parliament delegation headed by Mr. Nassauer". He then warns: Mr. Prodi must warn the Vietnamese Prime Minister that, if his country does not respect the democratic clause, it would become "urgent and necessary to proceed with the suspension of co-operation".
