11/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 17 September the European Commission will launch its PEOPLE Project piloted by Directorate General Research. This project should enable the monitoring of air pollutants, notably benzene, in ten European cities: Brussels, Bucharest, Dublin, Krakow, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Madrid, Paris and Rome. In order to achieve this objective, 2000 volunteers will wear "samplers" for 12 hours on the same day. A pilot phase is foreseen in Brussels and Lisbon. Commissioner Philippe Busquin and the Brussels Minister for the Environment, Didier Gosuin will be presenting the project at the Residence Palace at 14.30 H.
