Brussels, 28/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - As EUROPE announced at the start of the summer, the Council did not manage to approve all the amendments adopted by the European Parliament at second reading on the draft directive on the collection, testing, processing, storage and distribution of human blood and blood components. Two amendments caused serious problems for several Member States (see EUROPE of 25 June). As a result, the Council decided on 26 August under the written procedure to initiate the conciliation procedure with a view to agreeing on a common proposal that will then be submitted to Parliament and the Council for adoption.
The Council also decided to initiate the conciliation procedure on the proposal for amendment of the 1976 directive on cosmetics.
