Brussels, 26/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The "European Ideas Network" (EIN), a Europe-wide think tank project sponsored by the EPP-ED group of the European Parliament, will be inaugurated at a summer university to be held from 30 August to 1 September at Oxford University, in the United Kingdom. The network intends to promote a new school of thought on key issues facing the EU. It will bring together on an ongoing basis figures from the worlds of politics, academia, the press and business belonging to the European Christian Democrat family and will be matched with a state-of-the-art internet site. Forward-looking in nature, the activities of the EIN will focus on the following subjects: - the implications of globalisation and the future evolution of society; - promotion of democracy and good governance in the EU; - creation of jobs in Europe; - the role of the private sector in public services; - developments in agriculture and food security; - future of the economic and monetary union; - the geopolitical context after 11 September 2001.
