09/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The first European Ethics Summit will take place on 29-30 August in Brussels at the European Parliament. It is being organised on the initiative of the European Ethical Network.. Before the Summit, a meeting on "Ethical Responsibility in the Media" will take place. A press statement explains that this represents the first major collaboration between the EU's leading ethics associations such as: EBEN (European Business Network), Societas Ethica (European Society for Research in Ethics), Eursafe (European Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics), EACME (European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics). The communiqué also indicates that "Never before in the history of humankind have so many ethical issues been discussed. In our society which is characterised by profound and rapid changes as a consequence of new scientific (bio-technological, political and economic developments".
