Brussels, 08/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - On behalf of the European Union, candidate countries, EFTA members of the European Economic Area, the Danish Presidency has made the following declaration on the violence in Kashmir and Pakistan. "The EU strongly condemns the senseless attacks on Hindu pilgrims at Nunwan in Kashmir on 6 August. The EU equally deplores the attack on innocent civilians at a Christian school and church complex in Muree, Pakistan on 5 August. The EU is saddened by the loss of civilian lives and expresses it condolences to the bereaved families and the governments of India and Pakistan. The heinous attacks only serve to underline the importance of keeping up the fight against terrorism. The EU stresses the importance of promoting a spirit of religious tolerance."
