Brussels, 30/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Policy Centre has published its annual report for 2001 in which it provides a focus on, "The Europe We Need" - the centre of it 2002-2004 work programme. The think-tank founded by Stanley Crossick and directed by Hywel Ceri Jones, Ronald King and John Palmer organised a series of dialogue session that focused on the efficiency and legitimacy of the EU institutions, citizenship, growth and cohesion in the enlarged EU and global governance. Max Kohnstamm, former General Secretary of the ECSC and who is (together with Stanley Crossick and John Palmer) one of the founders of the European Policy Centre, plays an active role in the daily work of the Centre, of which he is Honorary President. In the report, Peter Sutherland, former European Commissioner and President of the of the Centre's Advisory Council praises Max Kohnstamm and points out that he still manages to keep a firm finger on the pulse on crucial issues facing the Union.
The first meetings of the Centre in September are: 17 September, seminar with the World Bank; 18 September, forum on fiscal policy in the EU; 19 September, briefing with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Franz Fischler; 25 September, a meeting with the Maltese Prime Minister, Eddie Fenech-Adami.
