Giving its opinion of the Fiscalis 2007 programme, EP reintroduces VAT system based on country of origin

Strasbourg, 19/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - Adopting in first reading the report by Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo y Marfill (EPP, Spain) on the Fiscalis 2007 programme, the European Parliament tightened budgetary control of the programme by introducing a VAT system based on the country of origin. Unveiled by the European Commission in January 2002, the programme foresees exchange of officials, training, common control, seminars and exchange of information on direct and indirect taxation.
