THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/council/crisis management and prevention

15/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Without debate on 13 May, the General Affairs Council adopted a document on "Implementing the Gothenburg EU programme for the Prevention of violent conflicts: a systematic approach to conflict prevention". The aim is to mobilise the EU's multiple analysis and information resources, thereby enabling the Political and Security Committee to make timely and operational recommendations to the Council and to ensure appropriate follow-up to the decisions taken, say the Council conclusions. Furthermore, the Council adopted decisions concerning arrangements for consultation and co-operation on crisis management between the EU and, respectively Canada, Russia and Ukraine. These arrangements cover both "non-crisis" periods and "crisis" periods, including pre-operational and operational phases.
