08/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Macedonian Parliament adopted the law on amnesty and CFSP High Representative Javier Solana welcomed this "brave step towards peace, stability and reconciliation". The law removes any uncertainty that still remained on the determination of the authorities and citizens to close the crisis and conflict chapter, said Mr Solana. He now awaits its "rapid implementation". According to the Macedonian Information Agency, MIA, it is estimated that some 3,000 former PKK members and 250 others will benefit from amnesty. The law would not be applicable to acts which come under the competence of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia.
