ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) privatisation

- Spain: According to the Spanish newspaper Expansión, the privatisations carried out since the Aznar government came to power in Spain in 1996 have provided EUR 29 bn for the state, twice as much as the privatisations carried out by the Socialist government between 1985 and 1996. In 1996, José Maria Aznar launched a massive privatisation programme and has so far privatised 43 companies in public offerings, explains the paper.
