Brussels, 10/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the merger of the French music channels Mezzo (Lagardère and Vivendi-Universal group) and Muzzik (France Telecom And France Television). These channels broadcast by cable and satellite programmes devoted to classical music, jazz and world music in France and several Member States. The agreement, which was notified to the Commission on 5 November, provides for Mezzo to acquire Muzzik through merger-takeover. After the operation, the new entity will be jointly controlled by the four parent companies. The Commission felt that the operation did not raise a competition problem because of the small size of the entity and its low market share.
