07/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - Amnesty International, the International Federation for Human Rights and Human Rights Watch have sent an appeal to the European Parliament to create a Human Rights Committee in the second half of its legislature. A press release on the preliminary decision by the Conference of Presidents not to create a fully-fledged committee which still needs to be confirmed by the 12 December plenary, describes the EP's Foreign Affairs Committee as "overburdened, giving priority to enlargement and defence issues and only marginally addressing human rights".
