Antonio Vitorino presents "mitigated result" of Tampere follow-up - appeal for criminal justice cooperation to be brought under Community sphere of competence

Brussels, 08/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a speech delivered in Paris on Thursday, Commissioner Antonio Vitorino renewed the Commission's criticism regarding the reticence expressed by Member States about implementing the Tampere programme. He also calls for transition from the intergovernmental method to the Community method for decisions relating to criminal justice cooperation in a speech addressed to next Friday's Justice/Home Affairs Council and to the Heads of State and Government....
