Eurostat publishes Regions 2001 Statistical Yearbook

Luxembourg, 05/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, published on 30 October the 2001 edition of the statistical yearbook of the EU regions, which not only illustrates the EU's regional diversity but also the links and similarities that have developed in recent years among the regions, including across borders. The publication tackles a number of topics: population, GDP, employment, unemployment, agriculture, science and technology, tourism and transport. It mainly notes that regional migratory flows are particularly marked in the United Kingdom, that the proportion of long-term unemployed varies from 4 to 73% according to the regions of the EU and that it is in Alentejo, in Portugal, that the roads are the most dangerous. Data covers 211 regions of the EU. For the first time, indicators are given for the 53 regions of the candidate countries of Central Europe. The publication is accompanied by a CD-ROM and is available in German, English and French at the price of 60 euros (ISBN 92-894-1041-8).
