Brussels, 10/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - Thanks to the Commission's approval of the EP's budgets on Wednesday, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France and Ireland will receive a total of EUR 400 million from the 2001 budget to cover part of the indemnities paid to farmers that had to slaughter their herd because of foot and mouth disease. EUR 355 million were granted to the United Kingdom, 39 million to the Netherlands, 3.3 million to France and 2.7 million to Ireland. We recall that Michaele Schreyer had called on the budgetary authority, at the end of August, to approve a proposal of payment for which one part of the agricultural savings achieved in the 2001 budget would be used (arable crops, 50 million; dairy products, 250 million; sheepmeat, 100 million).
