09/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - In an emergency resolution, the EP is calling for October 17 to be decreed the European Anti-Poverty Day throughout the EU and for the Commission to prepare a report on the economic, social and human costs of social exclusion. It also wants Member States to develop a genuine social inclusion strategy. The resolution suggests placing a paving stone in front of the EP in Brussels to commemorate the victims of poverty (like the paving stone at the Reichstag in Berlin, San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome or the United Nations in New York).
