Italy's second biggest banking group, UNICREDITO ITALIANO (UNICREDIT), yesterday abandoned negotiations with COMMERZBANK. UNICREDIT had entered preliminary discussions with the German bank to set up the first large-scale pan-European retail bank. UNICREDITO dropped out of the project because COMMERZBANK's demands were making the investment too risky.
