Baron calls on Prodi to make concrete proposals with view to Laeken Summit

Brussels, 30/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish President of the Socialist Group at the European Parliament, Enrique Baron, has called on President Romano Prodi to present a "package of proposals" concerning the debate on the future of Europe and the reforms necessary for enlargement, which are due to be approved in Laeken. "It is essential that the Commission fulfils its role in proposing to Parliament and Council the major themes of the debate that should lead to a Convention" to prepare future reforms, said Mr Baron, considering that the White Paper on Governance must be integrated into the overall debate on the Future of Europe. In this context, he also again calls on the Commission to draft a study on the links between cohesion policy and enlargement.
