Brussels, 24/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Commission gave clearance for the acquisition of Clemessy (a French company which installs electromechanical systems together with Dalkia and Cogema) by the French energy services company Dalkia, a subsidiary of the Vivendi Environment services group. The Commission believes the operation does not pose any competition problems on the electromechanical systems market or on related markets. The one-month review has shown that the operation will only lead to moderate overlaps, principally in France.
Also, "it is unlikely that the operation will significantly affect the competitive conditions in the markets concerned, since Dalkia already had joint control over Clemessy", adds the Commission. Finally, there was no indication that, before the transaction, Cogema's interests in Clemessy conflicted with those of Dalkia.
We recall that Vivendi Environment, a subsidiary of the Vivendi Universal, recorded an 11.7% increase in its turnover during the first half of 2001, to EUR 13.96 billion as opposed to EUR 12.5 billion over the same period one year earlier.
