Brussels, 08/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - As we predicted (see EUROPE of 3 August, p.5), the European Commission has approved nine action programmes aimed at promoting the consumption of apples and citrus fruit in eight Member States of the EU - Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom) - for a total of 8.31 million euro, 60% of which (4.98 million) from the Community budget. All requests submitted, under the on-going marketing year, were selected, which are those of Eurofru (Belgium, apples) which secures EU funding of 122.554 euro (out of a total of 204,257), Dansk Erhvervsfrugtavl (Denmark, apples) or 118,554 euro (out of 197,590), Deutsche Obst Werbung (Germany, apples), or 153,388 euro (255,646), CEF (Spain, apples) or 100,123 euro (166,871), Intercitrus (Spain, citrus fruit) of 1,860,359 euro (3,100,598), Pomeurop-CTIFL (France, apples), or 1,889,605 euro (3,149,342), Aspao (Italy, citrus fruit) of 194,640 euro (324,400), Agarmarkt Austria (Austria, apples) of 218,018 euro (363,364), UK Apples and Pears (UK, apples), or 329,494 euro (549,157).
