02/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a communique showing a recent high level meeting with the European Commissioner responsible for Transport Loyola de Palacio, the representatives of the goods transport and logistical services sector, grouped within the FFE (FreightForward Europe), are pleased with that their views converge with those of the Commission on the need to develop intermodality by basing their efforts on healthy competition between the different modes of transport. The FFE nevertheless points out that there must not be "overregulation" in the logistical services market. Otherwise, Loyola de Palacio and Peter Wagner, FFE president, seems to be on the same wavelength on the need to rebalance the different modes of transport to combat congestion in Europe and to this end to revitalise Community railways. The FFE also shares the Commission's point of view regarding the application of the "polluter pays" principle which is to allow the financing of infrastructure.
