The Consob, Italian stock market authority, gave its assent to the two planned takeovers on MONTEDISON and its subsidiary EDISON, but on condition of a green light from the European Commission, which must examin whether this operation will not create a monopoly situation in Europe… As a reminder FIAT associated with EDF via that company ITALENERGIA (see EI of 2&3 July) had launched last 2 July a takeover for the Italian company and its subsidiary. In the meantime, ITALENERGIA had increased its offer for MONTEDISON to EUR 3.07 per share from the initial EUR 2.82 per share, a new price, which values the company at around EUR 5.4 billion. On the other hand, the offer for EDISON remains unchanged at EUR 11.6 per share. The two takeovers will begin on 26 July and finish on 21 August.
