29/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Democratici MEP Paolo Costa (Conservatives) has presented an oral question on the EDF/Montedison case, aksing the European Commission what it is planning to do to "guarantee the smooth functioning of the internal market" where "non discrimination between companies" is a "necessary precondition". Mr Costa says that unlike France, Italy had started "a liberalisation process of the gas and eectricity markets that fully respected European Directives", and that the EDF concentration "following on from other challenged expansion attempts - particularly in Spain - rasies serious general questions about asymetry in the time period and levels of opening up of the different national energy markets".
