America's COMPAQ has announced that it would not increase its bid for the American Internet services company PROXICOM ($207 million turnover in 2000), leaving the path free to the British firm DIMENSION DATA HOLDINGS. COMPAQ had made a $266 million bid on 26 April (or $5.75 a share) for the company but DIMENSION DATA had over-bid it with $347 million (or $7.50 a share).
