Brussels, 14/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Algeria and the European Commission resumed negotiations in Algiers on 14 May with a view to concluding an Euro-Mediterranean association agreement. This 9th round will last until 18 May and, according to Algerian sources, will allow discussions to be finalised on the cooperation chapter in the financial and monetary fields. The two delegations are also expected to review, in the hope of settling them, certain themes discussed during earlier sessions. These mainly concern cooperation in the justice and home affairs fields and certain general provisions of a political nature (strengthening of the institutions and rule of law, cooperation in the prevention and control of illegal immigration, the movement of persons and the trade in persons, the fight against corruption and racism), as well as the chapters on economic, social and cultural cooperation. Both parties are also expected to open the dossier on cooperation in the services field.
