Brussels, 11/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has decided to grant additional aid of 2 million euro for displaced persons and refugees in Chechnya. Managed by Echo, the planned actions, over a three month period, aim at covering the essential food needs of the population, notably the immediate distribution of seeds to allow for self-sufficiency from the autumn of 2001. This new aid takes to 28 million euro the amount granted for the victims of the Chechen conflict since the beginning of the crisis. The Commission remains the largest donor in the Southern Caucasus, a press release stresses.
