Brussels, 18/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The headquarters of the European Police College Secretariat (CEPOL) could be located in Bramshill (Hampshire), site of the National Police Training headquarters (NPT), British Home Secretary Jack Straw proposed to the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council on 17 April. Jack Straw also suggested the name of Ian McDonald, NPT Deputy Director, as British candidate for the post of Administrative Director of the College's Secretariat (you may recall that it is under the Swedish Presidency that the headquarters of the CEPOL Secretariat has to be decided, whereas CEPOL's Board of Administration should appoint a new Director for the Secretariat later in the year).
The CEPOL network of EU Member States' police training colleges aims to promote good policing practice and train senior European police officers to maximise the potential of cross-border cooperation in tackling serious crime. The CEPOL Secretariat and Administrative Director will play a crucial role in developing and coordinating CEPOL training pogrammes in police training colleges across Europe. (For the details of Straw's proposal, see the Internet site: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk ).
