Brussels, 17/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank has granted a package of loans of over EUR 36.44 million to support projects in Egypt by small and medium sized enterprises in the industry and technology sectors, as well as environmental feasibility studies. The large part, EUR 30 million, was granted to Export Development Bank of Egypt and will serve to finance projects in the export and tourism sectors. This is the second overall loan to this public sector financial institution, in the context of the preparation of the Euro-Mediterranean free trade area. A loan of EUR 6 million was granted to the Middle East Technology Fund to support the development of the information technologies sector in the region. A subsidy of EUR 350,000 will serve to finance a feasibility study on the modernisation of the waste water treatment works on the western bank of the Nile (Abu Rawash).
