26/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - At its meeting in Stockholm on Thursday, the Executive Committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) adopted a resolution on the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in which it calls on all trade unions of the region to implement peaceful solutions and begin dialogue. ETUC will pursue its activities in the region and continue to back its partner trade unions in Fyrom. It stresses that, "objectively", the situation of the ethnic Albanian citizens of the country "in no case warrants this explosion of violence", and that the difficulties that remain at social, cultural and linguistic levels, may be overcome through Fyrom's institutions, where Albanian political parties are represented.
