Strasbourg, 13/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg, Tuesday morning, the European Parliament refused to vote this week on Commissioner Franz Fischler's package of measures aimed at amending certain provisions of the Common Market Organisation (CMO) for beef to remedy the crisis in this sector. "We reject this Council request for urgency as we believe we have the time to draw up a decent report that could be voted on in plenary in May", said the German Green Freidrich Graefe zu Baringdorf, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, before adding: "in the Nice Treaty, we failed to secure co-decision in the field of agriculture. If we agree to this request for urgency, we would be condoning this state of affairs".
