19/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - Mr. Baron, President of the Socialist Group in the EP, stressed at the PES Conference in Zaragoza that regarding the problem of immigration the EU could not continue "blindly" the same policies as 25 years ago. While not pleading in favour of a total opening of borders,, Baron stressed the economic advantages of a "positive approach to immigration" (see EUROPE of 17 February, p.16 for Mr. Vitorino's speech).
