09/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the Commission adopted a proposal for rationalising the "Machinery Directive" that aims to guarantee the free movement of machines within the internal market, and lays down essential health, safety and consumer protection requirements. The proposal will enhance legal certainty by clarifying the scope and certain provisions of the 1998 Directive, with respect to the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.
