07/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EP's Development Committee has discussed ongoing negotiations between the Burmese junta and the opposition, in the presence of James Mawdsley, of the Campaign for Democracy. As for the representative of the European Commission, which raised the recent visit by the EU Troika, he noted that it was very difficult to evaluate progress in these talks and shared the members' concerns at the continued human rights violations in Burma.
