The Belgian BEKAERT (turnover of EUR 2.5 billion in 1999) is in talks with KOBE STEEL and MITSUI in view of acquiring a majority stake in the Canadian producer of high carbon content steel wire TITAN STEEL & WIRE, joint venture between the two Japanese groups. This joint venture annual produces between 50,000 and 55,000 tonnes of high carbon content steel wire.
