The Brazilian mobile phone operator TELESP CELLULAR, controlled by PORTUGAL TELECOM, has taken an 83% stake in its counterpart GLOBAL TELECOM (463,000 subscribers) for $556 million plus $654 million in debts assumption. It is to buy the shares of the Japanese KDDI, Brazilian INEPAR and ITX which own the holding companies that control GLOBAL TELECOM.
