The British mobile phone operator VODAFONE is on the verge of paying £1.7 bn cash for a 15% stake in JAPAN TELECOM, third largest operator in Japan, in the hope of in the long-term taking control of J-PHONE, the Japanese's subsidiary in mobile phones.
