Brussels, 11/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the joint takeover of AirPlus, credit card company, by AUA Beteilsgungsgesellschaft (ABG, subsidiary of Austrian Airlines), Credietanstalt AG (CA, subsidiary of Bank Austria) and Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten gmbh (LASG, subsidiary of Lufthansa. ABG, CA and LASG will each take a 33% stake in the joint-venture, which will issue and market credit cards, taking part in the "Miles and More" system of Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa. The Commission considers that the operation will not create a dominant position, in the sense that AirPlus has a low market share for payments by card and that there is sufficient competition in the sector.
