Luxembourg, 11/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank is granting a loan of EUR 50 million to Bulgaria for the construction of a bridge over the Danube, linking Calafat in Romania to Vidin in Bulgaria. This bridge combining road and rail, "is of the utmost importance for developing pan-European Corridor IV which links Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey", underlined the EIB in its press release.
This loan over 25 years to the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport, will be complemented by a second loan of EUR 20 million that must still be singed, and with bilateral loans. "Corner stone" of the completion of the multimodal transport network in the enlarged EU, the construction of this bridge is also "strongly supported by both the EU and the Stability Pact", indicated the EIB Vice-President, Wolfgang Roth.
