15/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission President Romano Prodi, wrote to President Chirac to ask for the French Presidency of the Council not to give in on the dossier concerning maritime security. He expressed his fears that the search for a compromise at all costs in the Council on checks on high risk boats, does not end up with a "weakening of the Commission proposal" (the checks would fall from 6,000 to 3,000 ships).
