Damascus, 03/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of his recent visit to Syria, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder notably announced that his country was lifting its reservations regarding financing by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the country. This, he stipulated, would allow for the immediate release of a 75 million euro loan for electricity projects.
At the same time, the Chancellor announced the resumption of Germany's bilateral assistance for Syria and the granting of an initial DM 62 million loan, as well as the staggering over 20 years of the bilateral debt (1.25 billion euro). This comes within the context of preparing economic, trade, technical and cultural cooperation.
