- Brazil: Foreign investment in Brazil is expected to reach $28 billion for the year 2000, said the president of the Brazilian survey firm on multinationals and globalisation (Sobeet), Antonio Correa de Lacerda. Out of the total, 85% will finance mergers or acquisitions, with the remaining 15% being attributed to new undertakings, he specified. According to Mr Lacerda, these investments, from the United States, Spain, the Netherlands and Portugal rose to $15 billion for the first half year.
