Council approves several anti-dumping or anti-subsidy measures

Brussels, 21/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Council of the Union this week approved several anti-dumping or anti-subsidy measures in order to counter unlawful practices by third country exporters, heavy in consequences for the European industry, or in order to modify existing measures where they are partially justified. The Council thus: i) established a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of fluorspar from China; ii) reduces the definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of continuous textured polyester yarn filament from Malaysia, to the benefit of the company whose dumping market had been over-evaluated (Hualon Corporation); iii) modified the definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of polyester yarn (also continuous and textured) originating in Taiwan and Turkey, in order to repeal measures applied to the Taiwanese firm Lealea, which was able to lastingly reduce the dumping targeted; iv) established a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of styrene butadiene styrene thermoplastic rubber originating in Taiwan, and decided to levy the provisional duty; established a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of urea solutions and ammonium nitrate originating from Algeria, Belarus, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine. At the same time it decided to definitively impose the provisional duty, endorsed provisionally a commitment offered by an Algerian trader and closed the similar procedure concerning the Slovak Republic; vi) introduced a definitive countervailing duty - in addition to the anti-dumping duty also stated - on imports of thermoplastic rubbers from Taiwan and decided to definitively impose the provisional duty.

EUROPE will come back to the requirements of these different decisions.
