Brussels, 01/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament will discuss, on Wednesday in Strasbourg, the report by German Christian Democrat Anne-Karin Glase on undeclared work. The report calls on Member States to draw up an inventory of sectors of activity and main categories of persons concerned by these legally remunerated activities which are not declared to the public authorities. It also recommends the adoption, in the context of the European Strategy for Employment, of an action programme to fight against undeclared work. The report also considers that the reduction in the VAT rate established in certain high labour intensive sectors may contribute to fighting against undeclared work and therefore invites Member States to reduce levels of taxation and charges and to make labour legislation more flexible, so that moonlighting will be curbed.
